celery

Celery availability is tight at this time, especially for value-added product like sticks. Commodity celery is steady out of Arizona with lighter supplies from CA. Supply should improve in the second half of March. See Celery availability.

cauliflower

The Cauliflower market has slowed down with volatile availability expected to last for the next week or so before improving. Quality is fair to good. You can find organic product on The Marketplace loading out of Salinas, CA. See Cauliflower availability.

LEMON

California growers are reporting a strong supply of Lemons in all 3 growing regions in CA (Coastal, Central Valley, Desert). Volumes should remain steady through April with supply starting to trickle off by the end of May. California will be back with a strong supply in the fall. Out of Mexico, supply is expected to ramp up starting in mid-May. Limited juice volume is predicted at the beginning of the season, with the majority of growers ramping up in August/September. We recommend purchasing lemons in the next 6-8 weeks while California is still producing high volumes to avoid higher pricing when California trickles off and Mexico is just getting started. Produce Trends - February 23, 2022

Lemon

There is a strong supply of conventional and organic lemons in all three California growing regions (Coastal, Central Valley, and Desert). Lemons out of the California desert are predicted to yield more juice-grade volume due to a “rougher” crop this year. Mexico finished its lemon season in December and should start up again at the end of August or early September. We expect California’s supply will remain steady for the foreseeable future; no major gaps on the horizon. See Lemon availability.

grapefruit

Grapefruit supply out of California is steady for organic and conventional, although it is getting tighter for organic product. The Mexican season is close to wrapping up at the end of this month, resulting in tightened supply. California is peaking on smaller sizes (56ct - 72ct), while Mexican is peaking on the larger sizes. With the Mexican season winding down, we expect demand to shift towards California, resulting in higher prices and tightening supply over the next few weeks. See Grapefruit availability.

cabbage

Growers are reporting a solid supply of conventional and organic green, red, and napa cabbage at this time. Pricing is currently higher across all varieties, but we have some good deals on organic red and green cabbage out of California.

Produce Trends - February 7, 2022

cabbage

Cabbage supplies have been light recently and we expect that to continue for the next two weeks or so before improving. Cool desert weather has affected sizing and availability as well. carrot

Carrot supplies remain tight, with demand outpacing supply for the most part. Jumbos on the West coast are especially tight, but there is some steady supply out of Mexico. We expect this volatility to continue for at least the remainder of February. See Carrot availability.

lemon

Lemon availability remains steady. However, we are seeing lighter volumes for the smaller Choice grade fruit. Overall, the quality is good with supply peaking on the larger fancy grade fruit. Broccoli & Cauliflower

Weather has not been favorable for broccoli and cauliflower supply. Warm weather out of Yuma for the first six weeks of the season pushed the cauliflower crop ahead of schedule by 2-3 weeks. This means the crop that was supposed to be harvested now was actually harvested 2 weeks ago, and there is limited supply out on the fresh market. Now, the weather is cool and icy. We expect a 2-3 week gap on Cauliflower. Broccoli has not been as affected, but rain recently has caused some damage to the crop.

Lemon

Mexico is officially done with their lemon season. California is in full swing with Desert fruit, and we expect supply to be strong for another month. Small fruit is very limited, because rain last month increased the size of the crop. The new year has caused price increases across the board for growers in labor, packaging, and freight costs. See Lemon availability.

Orange

Mexican Valencias are tight after the new year with higher pricing over the last week. We expect availability to improve this week. True Valencias should start at the end of the month (1/25). Sizing is currently peaking in the 113ct-138ct range. Pricing is up this week for California Navels due to heavy rains at the end of December. Overall, we are seeing steady supply on Fancy, Choice, and Juice grade. See Orange availability.

Produce Trends - December 28, 2021

Broccoli

The broccoli market is volatile. We don’t expect to see it steady off for another 2-3 weeks due to various challenges. Both commodity and value-added (florets) products could be impacted. Quality is still mostly good. See Broccoli availability.

Lemons

Lemon supplies out of California are good, with solid availability from both the desert and the valley regions. Quality is strong. Some of the very large fruit is getting fairly tight, but we anticipate more supply coming online in the coming weeks. Mexico is finishing up its lemon supply - weather problems caused the season to end early. See Lemon availability.

Oranges

Orange supplies are very light due to recent rains delaying the harvest. The majority of fruit is fancy grade and size is peaking on 88ct. 56ct and larger fruits are limited right now. See Orange availability.

Celery

The celery market is tight overall due to colder weather. Prices are up, but we still have some great deals on The Marketplace for both organic and conventional product. We recommend taking advantage of supply now before the market gets tighter. See Celery availability.

Lemon

The lemon market is steady this week. According to suppliers, The District 3 region of California (Coachella/Mesa) is in full swing, with good quality and availability. District 1 has started harvesting when possible, but supply is slow to pick up due to fog. We have a variety of surplus #1 and juice grade product available now on The Marketplace. See Lemon availability.

Carrot

The jumbo carrot market is volatile this week. Pricing out of California is up with moderate supply and high demand, while Mexican supply is steady. Demand continues to outpace supply of school sizes and bulk pack carrots. We have solid availability of 2” chunks - both peeled and unpeeled and organic and conventional on The Marketplace now. See Carrot availability.

Broccoli

The Broccoli market is tight this week with volatile supply and higher pricing. The main growing region has transitioned down to the Yuma area, while there is little supply out of Santa Maria, CA. See Broccoli availability.

Oranges

CA Navels & MX Vals are in full swing. Navels are packing very clean with limited juice fruit. Available sizes are 88 count, 72 count and 113 count. See Orange availability.

Lemons

The lemon market is up this week. With the Mexican season pretty much wrapped up, the main source of product is coming out of California. Head to The Marketplace to find both surplus #1 and juicer grade lemons posted now. See Lemon availability.

Lemons

The lemon market is steady, with strong availability out of Arizona and California. Imports are winding down and quality is good. You can find organic juicer product on the Marketplace now. See Lemon availability.

Tomato

Supply is getting tighter on roman and round tomatoes, due to lighter supplies out of Mexico and Florida than usual. We currently have product loading out of California and Mexico on the Marketplace. Grape and cherry tomato markets are stable. See Tomato availability.

Celery

The celery market is strong, with good availability and pricing on the Marketplace now. Value added celery, like sticks and diced, are tighter than whole stalks. We do have some sticks available now, along with organic and conventional product of a variety of grades. See Celery availability.

Produce Trends - November 15, 2021

Orange

We are seeing limited volume on fancy and juice grade oranges out of Mexico, but availability should improve towards the end of the month as we enter into peak season. California Navels are high in quality (lots of fancy grade), with little choice and juice grade supply available. Supply should increase in 2-3 weeks or so. California Valencias are close to finished at this time, but please reach out if you are in need. See orange availability.

Cucumber

The majority of cucumber supply right now is coming out of Nogales, AZ and McAllen, TX. In the Southeast, Georgia is winding down, and Central Florida is just getting started. Availability could lower later into the winter, so we recommend taking advantage of solid pricing and high volumes now. See cucumber availability.

Lemon

District 3 (Coachella & Mesa, California) is fully online and shipping new-crop lemons out of Riverside. Quality is really good on fancy and juice grade. Suppliers in the desert & Yuma region should start harvesting soon, although later than expected due to rain. Mexican growers are finishing up harvests in the next week. Expect the Mexican season to fully end after Thanksgiving, causing California prices to increase. You can find great pricing for juicer lemon on the Marketplace now. See lemon availability.
